The International Conference on Simulation and
Modeling 2005 was initiated by Dr. Santhad Rojanasuntorn, the
Chairman of the Board of the National Research Council of Thailand.
The purpose of the conference was to encourage the use of simulation
and modeling in public and private decision making in Thailand
with the emphasis on integrated resource management and sustainable
                  development.
The conference provided an international forum for researchers,
scientists, software developers, and practitioners to exchange
ideas and approaches to present research findings and state-of-the-art
solutions, to share experiences on potentials and limitations
of simulation and modeling methodology, and to open new avenues
of research and development, on the topics related to simulation
                  and modeling.
The SIMMOD 2005 Conference had speakers from different backgrounds
including researchers, educators, modelers, software developers
and users, and practitioners. The conference encouraged contributors
to address a topical theme that is very relevant for the region:
integrating sciences and technology for resource management
                  toward sustainable development.
The MSSANZ Board and members were strong supporters of the
Conference, providing technical support, paper reviewing,
organising sessions, and hosting of these proceedings.
