×E3. Modelling in support of Sustainable Development Goal 11 – sustainable cities and communities

The world is becoming increasingly urbanised - already 60% of the world's population live in cities. These cities occupy about 3% of the globe's landmass, yet account for 60-80% of energy consumption and 75% of carbon emissions. Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable is Goal 11 of the United Nation's by 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Most countries have signed onto the SDGs and have set targets and associated indicators. This session is seeking papers that describe the supporting modelling - for example, in how these targets and indicators were set, whether the targets are achievable, how progress is being measured, forecasting what the world might look like should the targets be met. Methods, critical analyses and case studies from around the world most welcome.
