×G5. Flood and tsunami modelling: Techniques and applications

In the past century, major efforts have been devoted to the modelling of Tsunami and flood inundation leading to continuous improvement in the field. The modelling, however, remains challenging due to the complexity and chaotic nature of the system. Advances have been achieved through improving modelling structures and algorithms, data assimilation integrating remote sensing techniques, combining different modelling approaches, and utilising cutting-edge computing science, such as cloud computing and AI. Another aspect of advances is the quantitative estimates of uncertainty associated with the model simulation and prediction. These advances have led to practical applications in risk mapping, damage assessment, real-time forecasting, hydraulic structure design, river and coastal restoration, water resources planning, as well as having served as an important prerequisite to support other relevant decision making.

This session invites papers dealing with various aspects of advances in Tsunami and flood modelling such as:

Key topics: Flood, Tsunami, Uncertainty, Hydrodynamic modelling
