×K4. Meeting the simulation challenges of Northern Australia

Northern Australia periodically receives great attention as a ‘land of opportunity’. Recently, Northern Australia was once again the focus of a comprehensive study by CSIRO and state agencies/partners into the viability of agricultural development in the North.

Northern Australia is vast, while infrastructure, data and even local knowledge are sparse or difficult to obtain. Moreover, modelling strategies require an ability to consider a range of disciplines (hydrology, soils, agriculture, economics etc.) or, at least be compatible with each other, so that trade-offs between various development strategies can be assessed. Lastly, assessment outcomes need to be packaged in a way that brings true understanding to stake-holders and potential investors.

This session encourages submissions related to Northern Australia that explore novel ways to make assessments in specific disciplines (hydrology, agriculture, mining, resources) or integrated studies. Similarly, submissions related to digitally based extension tools specific to Northern Australian investigations are sought.
