×F2. Integrating live data in simulation

With more than 30 Billion connected devices expected by 2020, the rapid growth of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) makes it possible to gather and collect a tremendous amount of data in real time. This offers new opportunities for the development of the next generation of models and simulations using this live stream of information to better (re-)calibrate and inform them. Such models have the potential to better represent highly dynamic and complex systems. Potential applications for this IoT data include transportation, predictive maintenance, energy management, storm water management, agriculture and healthcare. While there are significant opportunities, there are also significant challenges in using these data, including the modification of existing models to take into account live data; the optimisation of sensor deployment; and developing methods for using the huge amount of data from the IoT devices for modelling and simulation purposes.

We invite research papers addressing one (or several) of the aforementioned challenges and/or detailing an original application of using live data in modelling and simulation.
