Floods account for 40–50% of all disaster-related deaths worldwide. In Australia, 1859 people have died in floods between 1900 and 2015. The average annual direct cost of floods has been estimated at AUD $377 million. Recent advances in monitoring and numerical modelling techniques have provided better opportunities to improve understanding of flood dynamics, forecasting of flood volume and velocity, and emergency preparedness and response.
This session welcomes all flood-related studies including:
1) flood mapping and monitoring;
2) hydrological and hydraulic modelling, uncertainty analysis and data assimilation; and
3) flood risk analysis and management.
