The social web is increasingly used by people to communicate and interact online and is supported by numerous technologies that personalize the web experience. There is a wealth of data available from these platforms and novel applications are being developed to harness this public content to improve social outcomes in areas such as government services, emergency management, health applications, environmental monitoring, policing and large scale event coordination. This will involve modelling information content, the information network and user interactions. This will improve targeted information extraction, content summarization and information dissemination in the social web.
