J9. Industrial applications of OR

Industrial systems include a broad range of vertically related activities, from the extraction and processing of raw materials (mining, oil and gas production, forestry, agriculture, scrap and refuse), to process industries producing more refined and specialised materials and substances (plastics, alloys and composites, food ingredients and foods), to highly value-added products, such as the manufacture of traded goods (consumer products, ships, aircraft, buildings, etc.). Increasing amounts of data are becoming available for tracking the state of industrial production processes, facilitated by the increasing Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure. At the same time, production processes are evolving to become more flexible, adaptive and amenable to customisation of industrial products. This session is concerned with applications of operations research within industrial processes with the aims of increasing efficiency and profitability while reducing costs, energy use and waste.
